Text Messaging

To receive Maroon Alert text messages on your cell phone, you must provide your cell phone number to the MyBanner system. The procedure is as follows:

Log in to MyBanner, http://oncampus.msstate.edu/cp/home/loginf
Click on Personal Information.
Click on Update Maroon Alert Information.
Select "I want to receive Maroon Alert text messages."
Enter your cell phone number in the Maroon Alert cell phone number field.
Click on Update/Verify Maroon Alert Information to save this information.

The cell phone number that you entered will be used for text message notifications in the event of a campus emergency, as well as periodic tests of the Maroon Alert system. It will not be published in the campus directory. Notification will be based upon best effort. Successful delivery of all messages cannot be guaranteed.

Instant Messaging

To be able to receive Maroon Alert instant messages, you must install the GroupWise Messenger software on your computer. It is free to all MSU students and employees and it works on Windows, Mac and Linux computers. You are free to install the software on university-owned, as well as personally owned computers, and it will work regardless of geographic location as long as your computer is connected to the Internet. To download and install the software, go to http://www.its.msstate.edu/Services/Software/introgwim.php and follow the instructions.

When the software runs, it will ask you to login with your NetID and NetPassword. As long as you are logged in to GroupWise Messenger and connected to the network, your computer will be ready to receive Maroon Alert instant message notifications and pop them up on your computer screen. It is recommended that your computer be set up to automatically launch GroupWise Messenger whenever a reboot occurs.
